Implementing the Investigations in Number, Data, and Space® Curriculum is a resource that offers an overview of the Investigations curriculum (1998, 2004, and 2006 editions). There are separate guides for Kindergarten through second grade, and grades three through five. These guides contain information about implementing the Investigations curriculum. In addition to providing a more general picture of "The Changing Face of Mathematics Instruction", they provide information about the curriculum, including:
- the components of each grade level (e.g. the name of each unit, the suggested order and pacing for each, the materials needed)
- the organization of the materials (e.g. units, investigations, sessions, choice time, extentions and excursions)
- the mathematical content (number, data, geometry and measurement, change)
- special features of Investigations (e.g. materials and technology, cooperative learning and grouping, assessment, family connections, review and practice, support for Spanish-speaking students)
The guides also explore areas such as the teacher's role in this curriculum, providing all students with access to meaningful mathematics, and getting started with Investigations. Finally, the Implementation Guides discuss the NCTM standards, and show how the mathematics in each unit correlates to those standards. (See links below for downloadable examples.)
