Experience from the field suggests that the following are important factors in successfully using Investigations to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.
- A strong leader with a vision, and a team that shares that vision
- A long-term plan, articulated
across grades and schools,
that supports the vision.
This should include plans
for:
- sustained professional development (for teachers, teacher leaders, administrators, parents, etc.)
- building capacity/developing leaders in each of the above groups
- clear, consistent, reasonable expectations (and support to help people meet them)
- resources (e.g. materials, time, people, expertise)
- early and systematic information to all constituents
