Experience from the field suggests that the following are important factors in successfully using Investigations to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

  • A strong leader with a vision, and a team that shares that vision
  • A long-term plan, articulated across grades and schools, that supports the vision. This should include plans for:

    • building capacity/developing leaders in each of the above groups
    • clear, consistent, reasonable expectations (and support to help people meet them)
    • resources (e.g. materials, time, people, expertise)
    • early and systematic information to all constituents
