Changes in the 2004 Edition Update

What's Different about the © 2004 Units?

This update touched the Curriculum Units and Implementing the Investigations in Number, Data, and Space® book. This edition is completely compatible with the 1998 copyright. All page counts remain the same and are compatible with Student Activity Booklets.

Curriculum Units

  • All Dale Seymour references have been removed.
  • Scott Foresman logo added to front and back covers; Dale Seymour replaced with Scott Foresman on binding.
  • Kindergarten Curriculum Units now have all 6 titles listed on back cover.
  • References to "Snap Cubes (interlocking cubes)" were made consistent.
  • Pearson Education, Inc. added to footer of all Student Sheets and Practice Pages.

Technology:

  • Changed all references to software from Mac to dual-platform in Class Session notes and all Student Sheets as appropriate.
  • Teacher Tutorials now give instructions for dual platforms.
  • Materials List - minimum requirements for Mac and Windows.
  • Software references changed from "included' to "The software is available for download at: investigations.scottforesman.com/software/index.html." This reference appears in the following sections of each Curriculum unit: Technology in the Curriculum, the Materials List, and in the Teacher Tutorial (where applicable).
  • Software titles have been revised to reflect specific CUs (for example, in Kindergarten the software is now called MS Shapes, not Shapes.)
  • Outdated pictures of computers have been updated.

Implementing the Investigations in Number, Data, and Space® Curriculum:

  • Added Schools and Families: Creating a Math Partnership to Support Materials in the Components lists and information about Schools and Families: Creating a Math Partnership to Assessment and Assessment Activities sections in Special Features.
  • Added Assessment Sourcebook to Support Materials in the Components lists.
  • "(disk included...)" in Components list reference changed to (software optional) or (software required) depending on the unit.
  • Added software titles to Support Materials in the Components lists (for example, "MS Shapes software written to accompany Making Shapes and Building Blocks".) Information was also added about how software can be downloaded.
  • Added information about Web site where software can be downloaded; gave phone number to call to if customer does not have access to Internet to request a CD-ROM. This is in the Special Features under Computers.
  • Correlation Charts:
    • "NCTM Standards" changed to "Content Strands".
    • "Patterns, Relations, and Functions" noted in all charts.
    • NCTM Standards reflect 2000 NCTM PSSM Standards in the text.
    • "Mathematics as Communication" became "Communication Standard 8" and "Representation Standard 10". All were reordered to align with NCTM PSSM.
