Curriculum by Math Content

Investigations is intentionally designed and sequenced to promote a deep understanding of mathematics. Each curriculum unit provides an in-depth study of a specific and related set of mathematical concepts and skills, in one (or sometimes two) mathematical strands. Each successive unit builds on the previous, both within and across strands, and across grades. This can be seen by looking at content-specific information, including the Math Emphases and relevant Benchmarks, from across the grades. Learn more about how the ideas develop in the following strands:

Important work also happens within the number and operations units at each grade level. Place value and early algebra are not strands of the curriculum -- they are not subtitles of any Investigations units -- but are critical components of the number and operations content K-5. Learn more about how the work on the structure of the base ten number system supports the development of computational fluency, and about what is meant by algebra in the elementary grades, including the kinds of generalizations that arise as students study number and operations.
