These pieces of software\u2014<em>Shapes<\/em> at K-2 and <em>LogoPaths<\/em> at 3-5\u2014are intended to support and extend the mathematics of the geometry and measuring units. While highlighted in these units, ideally students should have access to the software throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>In Grades K-2, <em>Shapes<\/em> Software provides an environment in which students investigate a variety of geometric ideas, including how different shapes go together; relationships between shapes; how shapes combine to make other shapes; patterning and tiling; symmetry; and geometric transformations such as rotations (turns), translations (slides), and reflections (flips).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-349\" src=\"http:\/\/70.40.220.109\/~tercedu\/investigations\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shapes_screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"265\" srcset=\"https:\/\/investigations.terc.edu\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shapes_screen.jpg 450w, https:\/\/investigations.terc.edu\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/shapes_screen-300x177.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In Grades 3-5, <em>LogoPaths<\/em> Software provides an environment in which students investigate movement along paths, length, perimeter, angle and the characteristics of a variety of shapes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-344\" src=\"http:\/\/70.40.220.109\/~tercedu\/investigations\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/logopaths_screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/investigations.terc.edu\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/logopaths_screen.jpg 450w, https:\/\/investigations.terc.edu\/inv2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/logopaths_screen-300x171.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Each piece of software offers sets of activities with varying levels of difficulty. At each grade level suggestions are given for the level of activities that most students will be working with. Teachers will introduce particular games and activities in particular grades, and we assume that students will primarily focus on these. But, students can find their own level\u2014starting with easier ones or challenging themselves with harder ones\u2014without being constrained by the grade level they\u2019re in.
