These standards state that \u201cmathematically proficient students\u201d should:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.<\/li>\n<li>Reason abstractly and quantitatively.<\/li>\n<li>Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.<\/li>\n<li>Model with mathematics.<\/li>\n<li>Use appropriate tools strategically.<\/li>\n<li>Attend to precision.<\/li>\n<li>Look for and make use of structure.<\/li>\n<li>Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It\u2019s important to note that, while the Practices describe student behaviors, the CCSS also acknowledges the role of teachers (p. 5) and stresses \u201cthe need to connect the mathematical practices to mathematical content in mathematics instruction.\u201d (CCSSM, p. 8.) The <a href=\"https:\/\/investigations.terc.edu\/inv2\/home\/overview\/\">goals and principles<\/a> that guided the development of <em>Investigations<\/em> closely match these standards, and also acknowledge the importance of the teacher and the math content.
