Many people are or will be teaching online, for some or all of their school day, at some point this year. Like everyone else, we have been thinking hard about remote instruction. How do we hold on to what we value in the teaching and learning of mathematics, in an online environment? What needs to shift? Below are blogs that we have found interesting and useful as we think through these and other questions.
- Recommendations & Strategies David Wees reviewed what the research on online learning has to say about high level recommendations, and “Two Writing Teachers” advised us to think about strategies that “do the most good and the least harm.”
- Student Talk Christy Hermann Thompson wrote about keeping student talk alive in a virtual environment and Bethany Lockhart Johnson reflected on ways to use asynchronous tools to amplify Kindergarten students’ voices during distance learning.
- Tools Michael Pershan wrote several blogs about technology solutions for problems he was having; those posts are summarized here. Rachel H. summarized her research on the affordances of different online whiteboards, and Anne Agostinelli reflected “on what is manageable for my students and me, and to think about what to use to accomplish our goals).”
Like everyone, we’re still learning. Please post other articles, essays, and blog posts you’ve found useful in the comments section below!
